Anti-Trojan Software Screening Criteria

Home      What is a Trojan Horse?      How we reviewed anti-trojans     About us

We started with 44 currently available anti-trojan programs. This was far too large a number to review so we reduced this down.

  • Six products were eliminated because we could find no current web site for the vendor.
  • Eleven were eliminated because their trojan database was either limited and/or out-of-date.
  • Seven products were eliminated because of their low popularity.
  • Four were eliminated because of consistent poor reviews.

This left 16 products. At this stage we then eliminated those products with restricted technical support.

To do this we posed three questions (in English) to the tech support service of the 16 remaining vendors.  All questions were sent out on a Tuesday to avoid time-zone problems.  We then waited five working days for responses.

Four vendors did not respond at all within the five day period. They were immediately eliminated.

We then eliminated any vendor who took more than three days to respond to all three questions.  That knocked out a further four products, including I might say, a couple of the most heavily marketed products.  This took us a little by surprise. Maybe these vendors should spend a little more on tech support and a little less on promotion.

To those folks who feel our tech support criterion was too tough, I'd ask a question. Would you want to buy a product where you couldn't get a tech support response with 3 working days?

So we were left finally with eight products and these we then intensively tested and evaluated for these reviews.
