Hi, I'm Ian Richards, the publisher of this site. I'm also the Editor of Support Alert Newsletter. Working in the computer industry you hear about a lot of computer security disasters. But nothing prepared me for the shock I experienced when, one day in 1997 I discovered that my computer had been taken over by an unknown stranger somewhere out there in cyber-space. The intruder had uploaded all my confidential information and before leaving had trashed a lot my valuable files. I was the victim of a trojan horse attack. A few days before I had loaded onto my computer a new spell-check utility sent to me for review. Hidden within the utility was a trojan RAT that gave the intruder full access to my files over the Internet.
At the time I was running an Norton AV, excellent
anti-virus program. It not only failed to detect the trojan
horse when it was installed on my computer, it didn't even put up an
alarm when the trojan program "phoned home" to tell its owner that he
could now take control of my PC! Since that incident I've been running anti-trojan software on my PC as well as anti-virus software. And I've installed a firewall as well. I recommend all computer users do the same. So when in 2002 one of my newsletter subscribers approached me with the idea of reviewing the best anti-trojan products on the market, I was very supportive. I didn't think there was enough public consciousness of the absolute need for these products. When I completed these reviews they were published at Tech Support Alert and received a terrific reception from readers. So much so, that I decided to put the reviews up on a separate site so that they can reach a wider audience. Since 2002 I've updated the reviews regularly. In total over the years, I've looked at over 60 anti-trojan products. What I try to do is cut these down to the best half dozen or so products. The absolute top products I flag as "Editor's Choice" but quite frankly the best product is the one that best meets your needs, so I suggest you read the reviews and make up your own mind. This is important because for some of the anti-trojans listed, we get a contribution from the vendor for sales that originate from this site. This fact does not affect our recommendations and it certainly should not impact your choice.
